Netherlands to help Indonesian city preserve cultural heritage
Dutch experts to be brought to Depok to assist its government, says ambassador Marc Gerritsen
DEPOK, Indonesia (MNTV) — The Netherlands will assist Indonesia’s Depok City preserve its cultural heritage, reports Tempo.co.
The city’s government aims to develop the Old Town as an area for all its residents.
Deputy Mayor of Depok, Chandra Rahmansyah, has submitted a proposal to the Netherlands to assist in the preservation and development of cultural heritage in Depok.
Ambassador of the Netherlands to Indonesia, Marc Gerritsen, said at the soft launching of Depok Heritage that the city had a lot of historical heritage.
“A city where you can walk from one beautiful historical site to another, a green city, and maybe a city where you can ride bicycles,” said Marc.
“The city (Depok) could be a place where people can truly enjoy the city, nature, without cars, but still maintain cultural heritage and a good communal life,” explained Marc.
“In terms of preserving cultural heritage, because we have a lot of knowledge and expertise, and maybe we can bring in some experts to Depok,” he said.
He mentioned that the Dutch government could also help in developing the Old Town in Depok, as a bicycle and pedestrian-friendly area.
“We will seek experts from the Netherlands to be brought to Depok to assist in developing this city,” said Marc.
