Morocco’s UM6P opens U.S. Global Hub to strengthen Africa–North America tech ties
New center in New York and Cambridge to connect African research, entrepreneurship, and start-ups with global partners
NEW YORK, United States (MNTV) — Morocco’s Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) has inaugurated its United States Global Hub, designed to link African innovation and research ecosystems with academic, industrial, and entrepreneurial partners across North America.
The launch, held September 8 in New York, was attended by Moroccan ambassadors Youssef Amrani and Omar Hilale, and marks a significant step in embedding Africa’s sustainable development goals into global networks of knowledge and investment, according to Tech Africa.
With offices in New York and Cambridge, the Hub will foster joint research, academic exchanges, and collaboration with U.S. universities while also opening access for African start-ups to venture capital, technology networks, and industry expertise.
Since its founding in 2017, UM6P has become a leading institution for Africa-focused learning and innovation, prioritizing fields such as sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, artificial intelligence, water security, and industrial transformation.
The university hosts nearly 7,300 students from 40 nationalities, including 1,000 doctoral candidates, with a strong emphasis on inclusion—80 percent of students receive scholarships, most of them fully funded.
UM6P has also supported over 1,000 entrepreneurs and established more than 200 global partnerships, including with U.S. research institutions, providing a foundation for the new Hub’s mission.
Officials say the center will serve three goals: embedding African research in global innovation dialogues, mobilizing the diaspora’s intellectual and entrepreneurial capital, and adapting global technologies for Africa-specific needs.
“UM6P was built on the idea that Africa’s future will be shaped by talent, science, and innovation rooted in local realities but connected globally,” said Mehdi El Khatib, Managing Director of UM6P Global Hub U.S., noting the Hub’s role in building bridges for African researchers and entrepreneurs to participate in the global knowledge economy.
With existing hubs in Canada and France, the U.S. expansion strengthens UM6P’s international reach while reinforcing Morocco’s role as a gateway for research, innovation, and investment in Africa.
