Morocco launches first US-backed high school robotics team
Casablanca students to design, build, and program industrial-scale robots under global STEM initiative
CASABLANCA, Morocco (MNTV) — Morocco marked a milestone in STEM education with the launch of its first high school robotics team under the U.S.-based FIRST Robotics Competition.
According to Morocco World News, the initiative, organized in partnership between the U.S. Mission and Loop for Science and Technology, aims to foster youth-led innovation and practical engineering skills.
The FIRST Robotics Competition challenges students to design, build, and program large-scale robotic systems while honing problem-solving, leadership, and teamwork abilities, providing hands-on experience comparable to real-world professional environments.
The Casablanca launch event introduced students and mentors to the competition’s rules, structure, and schedule, offering opportunities for networking, collaboration, and strategic planning for the upcoming season.
Organizers emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader effort to expand access to quality STEM education and cultivate innovation through international cooperation.
Collaboration with local institutions is intended to integrate American expertise and approaches into Morocco’s growing technology and innovation ecosystem.
With continued support from the Moroccan government in education and technology, the FIRST Robotics Competition is expected to create new pathways for students aspiring to careers in engineering, robotics, and scientific research.
