Mauritania begins digital transformation of health insurance system
CNASS partners with State Digital Agency to expand access, improve transparency, and support vulnerable populations
NOUAKCHOTT, Mauritania (MNTV) — Mauritania’s Caisse Nationale de Solidarité en Santé (CNASS) has signed a cooperation agreement with the State Digital Agency (AN-ETAT) to modernize and digitize the country’s social protection infrastructure, officials said.
The agreement, part of a broader effort to overhaul Mauritania’s health insurance services, focuses on upgrading CNASS’s digital infrastructure, enhancing the quality and accessibility of services, and strengthening inclusion for populations with limited digital access.
In its statement, CNASS said the partnership with AN-ETAT supports its upcoming 2025–2030 strategy to expand health coverage and improve coordination with healthcare providers.
The plan also aims to ensure transparent, efficient management of benefits, with a focus on informal workers and vulnerable groups.
“The objective is to adopt cutting-edge technological tools to better serve citizens and make public services more accessible,” the statement read, noting that the agreement will also foster knowledge exchange between the two institutions.
AN-ETAT, which oversees the implementation of Mauritania’s national digital strategy, is expected to assist CNASS in developing secure, interconnected platforms to streamline user experiences and facilitate remote access to benefits.
The initiative also aims to boost data reliability and ensure better tracking of insured individuals and service usage.
CNASS plays a pivotal role in Mauritania’s national social protection policy, providing voluntary health coverage and promoting social solidarity.
The new partnership represents a major step toward building a modern, inclusive, and digitally enabled health insurance system for the country.
