Massive health checks reveal 93% Jakartans are lazy
Jakarta has revealed that 93% of its residents are not physically active and there are rising health concerns
JAKARTA, Indonesia (MNTV) – The government of Indonesia’s capital Jakarta has revealed that 93% of its residents are not physically active and there are rising health concerns, reports Jakarta Globe.
The government unveiled the estimates based on the results of the free health checks in 2025 and early 2026. The Prabowo Subianto administration has been rolling out free health checks.
Throughout last year, as many as 70 million people had taken part in the rollout. The capital Jakarta discovered that its citizens had been too lazy to move around.
“We have identified the most findings from those that are at risk of cardiovascular diseases, particularly abdominal obesity and people who are physically inactive [totaling 93%],” Jakarta’s health office head Ani Ruspitawati said.
Some 74% of the participants also had abnormal blood lipid levels (dyslipidemia), while 51% struggled with dental health problems.
The health office is planning to step up promotional and preventive programs. This includes initiatives aimed at encouraging more Jakartans to embrace a healthy lifestyle.
The government’s intention behind the nationwide health checks is to prevent and detect diseases such as diabetes and tuberculosis.
Dental examinations are also available, but are strictly limited to screening. Last year, as many as 4.2 million Jakartans took the medical check-ups. As of Feb. 11, around 146,727 Jakartans had undergone the examinations so far this year.
The government hopes to medically check 130 million people throughout 2026.
