Maldives to Host 21st Asia Media Summit in 2026
Island nation to welcome top media leaders from Asia-Pacific as it prepares to host regional broadcasting summit
MALE, Maldives (MNTV) — The Maldives will host the 21st Asia Media Summit in 2026, marking the first time the international media gathering will be held in the island nation.
The announcement was made during the handover ceremony of the 20th summit, which took place this week in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Presidential Spokesperson Heena Waleed accepted the official handover document on behalf of the Maldives.
The upcoming summit will be organized in collaboration with the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) and the Maldives’ national broadcaster, Public Service Media (PSM). It is expected to draw media professionals, policymakers, and broadcasting leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
Hosting the summit is seen as a significant opportunity for the Maldives to raise its global media profile and foster international cooperation in the broadcasting sector.
The 2025 edition of the Asia Media Summit brought together over 300 participants from more than 30 countries, including regulatory officials, state broadcasters, and representatives from public and private media. The Maldivian delegation included members of PSM, the Maldives Broadcasting Commission, and other media stakeholders.
Since its inception in 2004, the Asia Media Summit has served as a key platform for dialogue on media development, innovation, and collaboration across the region. Topics typically include public service broadcasting, digital transformation, regulatory frameworks, and cross-border partnerships.
This year’s theme, “Celebrating Two Decades of Excellence and Beyond,” marked the 20th anniversary of the conference, reflecting on its growth and evolving role in a rapidly changing media landscape.
