Malaysia braces for demographic shift
Malaysia is preparing for a major demographic shift, with senior citizens projected to make up around 14% of the population by 2048
KOTA BHARU, Malaysia (MNTV) — Malaysia is preparing for a major demographic shift, with senior citizens projected to make up around 14% of the population by 2048, according to Malay Mail.
To address the long-term impact of an ageing society, Public Service Department (JPA) Pensions Division director Mohd Shahrim Hussin said the government has introduced the National Ageing Blueprint 2025–2045. The plan adopts a lifelong, multi-sector framework to help the country adapt to rising life expectancy and changing social needs.
“This blueprint emphasises six key areas — economy, employment, education, social protection, health, and long-term care — and it serves as JPA’s guide to improving service delivery for pensioners,” he said at the MyPesara Awards 2025.
Mohd Shahrim added that digitalising pension processes, improving data systems, and enhancing coordination between agencies are central to ensuring every pensioner receives benefits efficiently and on time, in line with JPA’s reform agenda.
Reflecting on the annual MyPesara Carnival and the awards ceremony, he said the initiative underscores JPA’s commitment to engaging the pensioner community through recognition, support, and community outreach.
“The MyPesara Carnival allows us to connect directly with pensioners nationwide, and each year we bring it to different regions so all pensioners feel valued,” he said.
He added that the MyPesara Awards 2025 is the first national platform to honour public sector pensioners who have made meaningful contributions to education, community service, or entrepreneurship.
