Macron: Trump can only win Nobel if he ends Gaza genocide
French President Emmanuel Macron said U.S. President Trump could only earn a Nobel Peace Prize if he succeeds in ending the war in Gaza
NEW YORK, United States (MNTV) – French President Emmanuel Macron said U.S. President Donald Trump could only earn a Nobel Peace Prize if he succeeds in ending the genocide in Gaza, where Israel continues its deadly assault on Palestinians.
“Trump wants the Nobel Peace Prize. The Nobel Peace Prize is only possible if you stop this conflict,” Macron told BFMTV in an interview on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
The comments came as UN Secretary-General António Guterres described the crisis as “one of the darkest chapters of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”
Addressing the Security Council, Guterres said Israel’s onslaught in Gaza City was compounding an already catastrophic humanitarian disaster.
“Famine is a reality, with the population constantly forced to move and being starved,” Guterres warned. He condemned Israel’s repeated violations of international law and said global inaction was undermining the UN’s credibility. Violence, he added, was now spilling into the West Bank and spreading across the region.
France braces for Israeli sanctions
Macron also said France would not remain passive if Israel retaliates against Paris for recognizing Palestine.
“If it were to happen, we would respond. We are ready for everything,” he said, while stressing that France seeks “a path of peace and a path of friendship.”
He added that Israel’s current military strategy has “no plan” and risks condemning its people to “perpetual war.”
Pressing the U.S. to leverage its influence, Macron argued that only Washington has the power to halt the bloodshed because of its military support for Israel.
“Faced with this situation, there is one person who can do something: the American president,” Macron said. “The United States supplies the weapons that allow this war. So pressure must be put on the Israeli government to stop the conflict in Gaza.”
Macron said France’s recognition of Palestine is a step toward isolating Hamas, rejecting claims it was a reward for the group. “It is completely false to say that this is a reward for Hamas,” he said, calling recognition “the only way” forward.
“All that is needed is political will,” he concluded.
