Kyrgyzstan launches nationwide fair to boost local farming and rural economy
Issyk-Kul 2025 fair features farmers, artisans, and eco-produce from across Kyrgyzstan in push to support domestic agriculture
BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan (MNTV) — A major nationwide agricultural fair is underway in the resort town of Cholpon-Ata, bringing together farmers, artisans, and small producers from across Kyrgyzstan in a government-backed initiative to strengthen the country’s rural economy.
The “Issyk-Kul 2025” fair, which began on July 5 and will run through August 25, is being held at the Cholpon-Ata hippodrome on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul. According to state-run news agency Kabar, the event is organized by the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Featuring a wide variety of local produce and traditional crafts, the fair serves as a platform for domestic producers to directly connect with consumers.
Stalls are stocked with fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy products, meat, and honey, alongside homemade pastries, ethnic garments, ornamental plants, and herbal infusions. Visitors can also participate in masterclasses, sample traditional recipes, and gain insights into sustainable farming techniques.
Organizers say the fair is designed not only to promote agricultural self-sufficiency but also to encourage eco-friendly consumption and support rural livelihoods. Emphasis is placed on organic and handmade products sourced directly from Kyrgyz producers, reinforcing the government’s broader goals of food security and economic resilience.
Proceeds from the event will be used to upgrade the Cholpon-Ata hippodrome and support the country’s horse breeding sector—a vital part of Kyrgyzstan’s cultural and economic heritage.
With its scenic location and family-friendly programming, Issyk-Kul 2025 is expected to attract thousands of visitors in the weeks ahead, contributing both to the local economy and to national agricultural development.
