Kyrgyz director’s film wins UNESCO Cultural Diversity Award
“Black. Red. Yellow.” recognized for portraying borderland life, heritage, and social themes; ceremony set for Nov. 28 in Australia
BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan (MNTV) — Kyrgyz filmmaker Aktan Arym Kubat’s feature film “Black. Red. Yellow.” has won the Cultural Diversity Prize from the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Screen Academy (APSA), the academy announced on its website.
The award will be presented on Nov. 28 in Gold Coast, Australia.
Based on stories by writer Topchugul Shaidullaeva, the film was shot in Kyrgyzstan’s Batken region and follows Turdugul, a carpet weaver whose life intertwines love, family duty, migration pressures, and the challenges of living in a border community.
The APSA Prize, founded in 2007 by UNESCO, FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers Associations), and the Australian government, recognizes cinematic achievement across more than 70 countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Cultural Diversity award specifically honors films that preserve and promote cultural traditions while highlighting humanitarian and social issues.
Arym Kubat previously won APSA’s top award in 2022 for his film “In My Memory.”
