Kazakh artists win top honors at global traditional music festival in Kyrgyzstan
Kazakh soloists and ensembles shine at inaugural Rukh Sanat festival, promoting cultural heritage through cross-border collaboration
ASTANA, Kazakhstan (MNTV) — Artists from Kazakhstan have emerged among the top winners at the inaugural World Festival of Traditional Culture and Music, held this week on the shores of Issyk-Kul Lake in Kyrgyzstan.
The festival gathered musicians and performers from across Asia, Europe, and Africa in a celebration of global intangible heritage.
According to a report by the Kazinform News Agency, the competition segment of the festival—held on August 1 and 2—featured eight soloists and 13 music ensembles from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Japan, India, Egypt, South Korea, Poland, Bangladesh, Estonia, Hungary, and Nepal.
In the solo performance category, Kazakhstan’s Saltanat Kairatkyzy and Russia’s Dongak Naidan shared first place. Among musical groups, Kazakhstan’s Tengri Saz and Russia’s Kharaacha won the highest awards in the ensemble category.
Kazakhstan’s Kausar Group was also recognized with a special diploma from the international jury for its efforts in preserving traditional music and cultural heritage.
The festival, named Rukh Sanat, aims to create an international platform for cultural exchange and artistic collaboration. Organizers said the event serves as a space for dialogue between nations through music, while promoting diverse musical traditions that are often underrepresented in global cultural forums.
Held for the first time in Kyrgyzstan, the Rukh Sanat festival is set to become a biennial event, offering musicians from around the world a recurring platform to share and safeguard traditional forms of expression.
For Kazakhstan, which has long emphasized the preservation of nomadic and oral cultural traditions, the victories are not only a testament to artistic excellence but also a reflection of the country’s commitment to cultural diplomacy through the arts.
