Israeli forces kill Palestinian international runner near aid center in Khan Younis
Allam al-Amour, bronze medalist at 2023 West Asia Clubs Championship, shot while seeking aid
GAZA CITY, Palestine (MNTV) — Palestinian international runner Allam al-Amour was killed after Israeli forces opened fire near an aid distribution point in Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip, according to family members and local reports.
Relatives said al-Amour was shot as he approached “American-led aid centers,” where civilians have been gathering in recent weeks to receive food supplies amid worsening famine conditions in the enclave.
Israel, in these American aid centers, has already killed thousands of people who have nowhere to go except this source in search of food.
Al-Amour, a promising young athlete, had represented Palestine internationally. In March 2023, he secured a bronze medal in the 3,000-meter race at the first West Asia Clubs Athletics Championship in Doha, a tournament that drew 250 athletes from 12 clubs across the region.
His achievement was hailed by the Palestinian sports community as a sign of resilience despite the hardships of occupation and blockade.
The Palestinian news agency Wafa confirmed his athletic record, noting that he had been regarded as one of the country’s rising stars in track and field.
Since October 2023, Israel’s military operation in Gaza has killed nearly 63,000 Palestinians, according to Palestinian health authorities.
Israel’s war on Palestine has left vast parts of the territory in ruins and pushed its population to the starvation, with international agencies warning that conditions have rendered the strip nearly uninhabitable by Israel’s man-made famine.
Al-Amour’s death highlights the toll the war continues to take on Palestinian civilians, including athletes, journalists and cultural figures, as the war-led crisis deepens.
