Israeli airstrike kills Yemen’s prime minister in Sanaa
Group confirms death of Ahmed al-Rahawi along with several ministers amid escalating regional tensions
SANAA, Yemen (MNTV) — Yemen’s Houthi government has confirmed that its prime minister, Ahmed Ghaleb al-Rahawi, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the capital Sanaa earlier this week, alongside several other senior officials.
The group announced on Saturday that al-Rahawi and a number of ministers in its government died in Thursday’s strike while attending a workshop in the city.
The Houthi presidency described the slain officials as “martyrs,” vowing that their deaths would not disrupt governance or military operations.
“The blood of the great martyrs will be fuel and a motivator to continue on the same path,” the presidency said in a statement, stressing that state institutions would remain functional despite the losses.
Israeli media, citing unnamed sources, reported that the strike was aimed at the entire Houthi cabinet, allegedly killing the prime minister and up to 12 ministers, though casualty figures have not been independently verified.
The air raid followed a series of recent Israeli strikes on Yemen, including an attack on August 24 that killed 10 people and wounded more than 90, according to health officials. Israel said those earlier strikes targeted Houthi military facilities and the presidential palace.
Tensions in the region have intensified as the Houthis continue launching attacks on Israel and Western shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, as acts of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, facing genocide at the hands of Israelis.
On Wednesday, the group claimed responsibility for a missile fired toward southern Israel, which the Israeli army said it intercepted.
Despite repeated strikes, Houthi leaders maintain that Israeli actions will not deter their operations, framing their campaign as part of broader resistance to Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
