Israel to launch expanded Gaza offensive despite famine warnings
Netanyahu-backed plan could uproot 1 million Palestinians amid worsening hunger crisis, UN says
GAZA CITY, Palestine (MNTV) — Israel is expected to approve a sweeping new occupation move to seize large areas of the Gaza Strip, a move likely to displace nearly a million Palestinians over the next five months, according to reports from Israeli media.
The proposed assault, backed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is set to begin with attacks on Gaza City and surrounding refugee camps, driving residents southward toward the overcrowded Mawasi humanitarian zone.
Israeli sources claim the operation aims to dismantle what remains of Hamas and coerce the group into releasing approximately 50 hostages—only 20 of whom are believed to be alive.
The Israeli security cabinet is scheduled to convene Thursday evening, where Netanyahu is expected to receive enough support to push the plan forward, despite warnings from senior military officials that the offensive could endanger the hostages and further destabilize the region.
Humanitarian agencies, meanwhile, are raising alarms about a catastrophic escalation of Gaza’s hunger crisis.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) described the situation as a “famine scenario,” with children under five dying from starvation and food access at its lowest level since the war began.
OCHA reported that 81 percent of households in Gaza now suffer from poor food consumption—more than double the level recorded in April.
Aid groups continue to face severe restrictions, with limited access and unsafe conditions preventing the delivery of lifesaving assistance.
A European Union official told Reuters there had been some logistical progress, including increased fuel deliveries and repairs to infrastructure.
However, the absence of safe corridors and ongoing bombardment make large-scale aid distribution nearly impossible.
Despite international condemnation and calls for restraint, Israel continues the genocide of Palestinians, drawing accusations of collective punishment and ethnic cleansing against the civilian population of Gaza.
