Israel kills 113 Palestinians in 24 hours as Gaza famine toll rises
Health officials say dozens were killed while seeking aid, as famine deaths climb and scholars declare Israel’s actions genocide
GAZA, Palestine (MNTV) – The Palestinian health ministry reported Wednesday that hospitals in Gaza received 113 bodies and 304 wounded in the past 24 hours as Israeli strikes continued across the enclave.
At least 44 Palestinians, including aid seekers, were killed since dawn. The ministry said 33 people were shot dead and more than 141 injured while trying to collect humanitarian aid. Since May 27, 2,339 aid seekers have been killed and over 17,000 wounded.
Six more people, including a child, died of starvation in the past day, raising the war’s famine-related death toll to 367, among them 131 children.
August was the deadliest month yet, with 185 starvation deaths recorded. Officials warn over 43,000 children under five and 55,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women are now malnourished.
Israeli helicopters and warplanes struck residential buildings in Gaza City’s Nasr and Sheikh Radwan neighborhoods, killing and wounding dozens.
Fires broke out after incendiary bombs were dropped on tents sheltering displaced families. Artillery also shelled Zeitoun, Sabra, Khan Younis and Rafah, killing several civilians, including women waiting for aid.
In central Gaza, drone strikes killed five in Nuseirat camp. In southern Rafah, Israeli troops opened fire on civilians at an aid distribution point, killing three and wounding 50.
Meanwhile, Israel’s far-right finance minister Bezalel Smotrich announced plans to annex 82 percent of the occupied West Bank, declaring it would block any Palestinian statehood. The UAE warned that such annexation would cross a “red line” and undermine the Abraham Accords.
The International Association of Genocide Scholars ruled Israel’s actions in Gaza meet the UN definition of genocide, citing systematic attacks on civilians, forced displacement, destruction of homes, starvation, and cultural erasure.
The group urged states to uphold their legal obligations under the Genocide Convention and arms treaties.
The health ministry said total casualties since October 2023 have reached at least 63,746 dead and 161,245 wounded.
Israel’s war also spilled into Yemen. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a cabinet meeting in a bunker after Israeli strikes killed Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi and other Houthi officials in Sanaa.
The Houthis retaliated by targeting Tel Aviv, while Israel confirmed new raids on Yemeni positions.
In Britain, cosmetics chain Lush shut its 100 stores and website for a day, citing solidarity with starving families in Gaza.
