Is Toronto No Longer Safe? Failed Auto Theft at Premier Doug Ford’s Home Raises Alarm
Residents of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) are expressing growing concerns about safety following an attempted auto theft outside the home of Premier Doug Ford, which made headlines today.
Just after midnight, police officers observed a masked group approaching Premier Ford’s driveway near the intersection of Lawrence Avenue West and Royal York Road. After a brief vehicle stop, one suspect attempted to flee. Inside the suspect’s vehicle, authorities discovered a key reprogramming device and a programmable master key.
Four suspects were arrested: two men aged 23, a 17-year-old, and a 16-year-old. They now face multiple charges, including possession of auto theft tools.
During a press conference, Premier Ford addressed the incident, referring to the suspects as “stupid criminals” and describing the situation as a high-speed chase outside his residence. He remarked, “You want to talk about a lawless society? They came for my car at 12:30 in the morning. Luckily, two police cruisers were right there.”
Ford, who is protected by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Toronto police, expressed concern for average families without security watching their homes. He stated, “Just imagine the people who don’t have security.”
This incident underscores Toronto’s escalating auto theft crisis, which is affecting communities across the region, irrespective of their location.
