Irish charity aids Gaza’s displaced Christians with critical fuel support
Fuel donation sustains vital services for displaced Christians in Gaza amid deepening crisis
DUBLIN (MNTV) – An Irish charity has donated €12,000 to provide vital fuel for displaced Christians sheltered at the Holy Family School in Gaza.
This contribution made by Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) Ireland has been a lifeline for 600 individuals, enabling access to basic necessities amid the worsening humanitarian crisis in the region.
ACN Ireland, a leading charity dedicated to supporting persecuted Christians worldwide, has a global reach, backing nearly 6,000 projects across 140 countries last year alone.
Since October 2023, Gaza has faced severe displacement, with over 1.9 million people—85% of its population—forced to flee their homes.
Fuel shortages have compounded the crisis, leaving shelters overcrowded at 4–5 times their intended capacity.
Michael Kelly, director of public affairs for ACN Ireland, emphasized the urgency of the situation.
“While we cannot stop the war or violence, we can help those desperately in need. Supporting Gaza’s small Christian community allows them to assist thousands of their Muslim friends and neighbors.”
The €12,000 donation covers one-third of a fuel and diesel invoice for Holy Family School, which serves as a critical refuge for displaced Palestinians.
The funds have been allocated to essential services, including electricity generation, water access, sanitation, communications, and vehicle operations.
Gaza’s humanitarian crisis has been exacerbated by a severe fuel shortage that has crippled basic services.
The UN reports that 70% of Gaza’s population lacks access to clean water, as desalination plants have ceased operations.
Only 15 of 36 hospitals remain partially operational, and the World Food Program has recorded a staggering 900% rise in cooking gas prices.
Before the crisis, Gaza needed 1.4 million liters of fuel daily to sustain essential services. Current restrictions have reduced this supply to less than 10%, further endangering the delivery of critical resources like food, medical care, and sanitation.
At Holy Family School, the impact of ACN’s donation has been immediate.
The fuel has kept power generators running, ensuring electricity for lighting, medical equipment, and communication.
It has also maintained water pumps for drinking and sanitation, upheld hygiene facilities, and enabled emergency transport and supply deliveries.
In a region ravaged by instability, ACN Ireland’s contribution has provided a lifeline for the displaced Christian community, preserving dignity and basic living conditions while fostering resilience in a time of immense hardship.
