Iraq unveils new export strategy to diversify trade and support local industry
Over 200 products targeted for foreign markets under Trade Ministry’s revised plan
BAGHDAD, Iraq (MNTV) — Iraq has announced a broad set of measures to boost its exports, as the government moves to promote national industries and expand the country’s international trade footprint.
The Ministry of Trade said it is working closely with a specialized committee to implement a new export strategy focused on increasing the number of Iraqi goods available for overseas markets and supporting local producers through financial and logistical assistance.
Trade Ministry spokesperson Mohammed Hanoun told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the program aims to develop clear criteria that will help investors and producers identify products with export potential and enable them to navigate the export process more efficiently.
Hanoun added that Iraq plans to export more than 200 products across various sectors, supported by the Export Subsidy Fund, which will provide financial incentives and logistical backing to exporters.
He emphasized that the government is committed to enforcing cabinet-approved policies designed to promote Iraqi-made goods while safeguarding the domestic economy.
The upcoming phase is expected to witness significant growth in export operations, aided by structured mechanisms and official frameworks already in place.
The initiative is part of a wider government strategy to diversify Iraq’s economy, reduce reliance on oil revenues, and position Iraqi products competitively in global markets.
