Iraq ranks third globally in anti-drug efforts at World Police Summit
Iraqi Interior Ministry praised for dismantling trafficking networks as Iraq outperforms 135 countries in global ranking
BAGHDAD, Iraq (MNTV) — Iraq’s Ministry of Interior has secured third place among 138 countries in the World Police Summit (WPS) rankings for its performance in combating drugs and psychoactive substances.
The ranking places Iraq just behind India and Montenegro, highlighting significant progress in the country’s anti-narcotics operations, according to the latest results announced during the summit’s fourth edition in Dubai.
Iraq outperformed over 200 government and non-government organizations assessed at the summit, which evaluates global law enforcement efforts in combating organized crime and drug trafficking.
The achievement reflects years of strategic investment in counter-narcotics infrastructure, training, and intelligence operations.
Iraq’s Drug Enforcement Directorate has launched a number of high-impact operations targeting both domestic and international drug trafficking networks, many of which have led to major arrests and large-scale seizures.
Officials attribute the success to robust inter-agency coordination and continued support from national leadership.
The Ministry of Interior emphasized that the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, alongside Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari, have prioritized the fight against narcotics.
The Ministry affirmed its commitment to maintaining vigilance and expanding cooperation with international bodies to dismantle trafficking routes and protect Iraqi communities from the rising threat of drug abuse.
