Iran’s Ayat Sharifi crowned Strongest Man in Asia at 2025 championships
Sharifi leads Iran to second place finish in medal standings at Asian Weightlifting Championships in China
JIANGSHAN, China (MNTV) — Iranian weightlifter Ayat Sharifi claimed the title of “Strongest Man in Asia” after an outstanding performance at the 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championships, winning two gold medals and one silver in the super-heavyweight category.
Sharifi began his campaign with successful snatch lifts of 185 kg and 191 kg before securing a silver medal at 195 kg, reported Mehr News.
He went on to dominate the clean and jerk, lifting 227kg to win gold. A second attempt at 235 kg was disqualified by the jury, and Sharifi opted not to take a third.
With a total lift of 422 kg, the Iranian champion earned the overall gold medal and solidified his reputation as a leading figure in the sport.
Other notable Iranian medalists included Ali Alipour, who took home two golds and a silver in the 96kg division, and Alireza Moeini, who earned gold in the snatch and bronze overall.
Iran placed second in the team medal standings, finishing just behind host country China. In total, the Iranian team secured eight medals: five gold, two silver, and one bronze.
Sharifi’s performance made him the standout athlete of the tournament and reinforced Iran’s position as a dominant force in Asian and global weightlifting.
