Iran vows to continue uranium enrichment, condemns U.S. strikes on nuclear sites
Deputy FM reaffirms Iran’s commitment to peaceful nuclear activity under NPT, warns against Western pressure
TEHRAN, Iran (MNTV) — Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht Ravanchi has rejected calls for Iran to suspend its nuclear program, asserting that uranium enrichment will continue in line with the country’s rights under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Speaking in an interview with Germany’s ARD broadcaster on Sunday, Takht Ravanchi condemned recent U.S. airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan, labeling them “an act of aggression” and “a clear violation of international law.” He declined to provide specifics regarding the damage inflicted by the strikes.
“Iran has always pursued nuclear energy for peaceful purposes,” Takht Ravanchi said during the interview. “As long as we remain a committed member of the NPT, no one can dictate what we are permitted to do.”
His remarks follow the escalation of hostilities in the region after Israeli forces initiated attacks on Iran on June 13. The U.S. joined the offensive with coordinated strikes early Sunday, citing concerns over Iran’s nuclear activities.
Takht Ravanchi emphasized that Iran will not abandon its nuclear pursuits in response to pressure or threats, reiterating the country’s adherence to international treaties while asserting its sovereign right to develop nuclear technology for civilian use.
Iranian officials have also stated that Tehran reserves the right to respond to the U.S. attacks, with national security agencies currently assessing response options.
