Deals span defense, energy, education, culture and media; Iranian President Pezeshkian praises Oman’s role in indirect Iran-US talks
MUSCAT, Oman (MNTV) – Iran and Oman signed 18 memoranda of understanding as part of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s official two-day visit to Muscat, aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors.
The agreements were finalized on the sidelines of the Iran-Oman Joint Economic Committee session and cover collaboration in legal, economic, political, cultural, educational, health, defense, media, technological, energy, and mining fields.
A joint commemorative postage stamp was also unveiled during the ceremony, symbolizing the enduring cultural and historical ties between the two Gulf neighbors, reported Mehr News.
President Pezeshkian arrived in Muscat earlier Tuesday at the invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq.
After receiving a formal welcome at Muscat International Airport, he held a high-level meeting with the Omani monarch, followed by talks between delegations from both countries.
During the session, President Pezeshkian praised Oman’s “active and constructive” role in facilitating indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States. He reiterated Tehran’s readiness to expand cooperation with Muscat in all areas.
“We are ready to do whatever is within our capability for the dignity and greatness of Muslims,” he said. “Each of us has capacities that can be employed for the well-being and progress of one another and of other nations in the region.”
Sultan Haitham welcomed the Iranian president’s remarks and emphasized the potential for boosting bilateral trade and energy cooperation.
“If the avenues for business activities are opened, the two countries will witness a significant leap in bilateral relations,” he said.
He added that enhanced connectivity between Iranian and Omani ports, along with the commercial potential of Iran’s north-south railway corridor, were of particular interest to Muscat.
President Pezeshkian’s trip to Oman marks his tenth foreign visit since assuming office.
