TEHRAN, Iran (MNTV) — Iran and Japan have opened a new chapter in scientific cooperation following a meeting between Iranian Minister of Science, Research and Technology Hossein Simaee and Japanese Ambassador to Tehran Tamaki Tsukada.
The talks took place at the Ministry of Science ahead of Simaee’s trip to Japan for the 22nd Science and Technology in Society (STS) forum, according to IRNA News.
Simaee described the meeting as the start of deeper collaboration, emphasizing that both nations could benefit from joint projects in research and technology. He noted that science and innovation remain outside the scope of sanctions under UNESCO guidelines, underscoring that “science and research cannot be sanctioned.”
Highlighting strong cultural ties, the minister pointed to Iranians’ positive perception of Japan and the respect for Japanese scholars such as Toshihiko Izutsu, a well-known Islamic thinker and Quran scholar who remains highly regarded in Iran.
Ambassador Tsukada welcomed the renewed engagement, stressing that science and technology provide a stable platform for maintaining and strengthening bilateral relations despite political and economic constraints.
