Iran claims to have downed Israeli jets, intercepted British destroyer—claims unverified by Israel, UK
Tehran says its defense forces struck Israeli aircraft, halted a Royal Navy destroyer, and downed more jets; Western sources have yet to confirm.
TEHRAN, Iran (MNTV) — Iran’s military media on June 13–14 reported a series of operations against what it described as hostile Israeli and British forces, though none have been independently verified.
State outlets said Iran’s air defense successfully engaged hostile Israeli assets, downing multiple projectiles, drones, micro air vehicles—and notably, Israeli fighter jets—over its airspace.
These claims follow Israel’s early Friday airstrikes on Iranian cities including Tehran, Tabriz, Khorramabad, Kermanshah, Boroujerd, and Natanz, which reportedly killed military figures, nuclear scientists, and civilians. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei condemned the strikes, vowing “severe punishment”.
Iranian state media further reported the country’s navy had intercepted a “British spy destroyer” in the Sea of Oman, alleging the vessel was en route to assist Israel. This account, cited by Mehr News, has not been confirmed by the United Kingdom, or independently verified.
Later the same day, Iran’s Khatam al‑Anbiya Air Defense Base claimed it had shot down 10 Israeli military aircraft within the previous hour across various parts of Iran. No independent or Israeli sources have confirmed these shootdowns.
All three incidents—Israeli fighter jet losses, interception of a British destroyer, and downing of ten military aircraft—remain based solely on Iranian media claims. Neither Israel nor the U.K. has acknowledged these reports, and independent verification is still pending.
