Indian Student Found Dead in Hamilton Lake; Family Seeks Answers
Toronto Police have confirmed that Sahil Kumar, an international student who went missing on May 16, has been found dead in a lake in Hamilton. Originally from India, Kumar had recently moved to Canada to pursue a web design program at Humber College.
According to a police press release, the investigation does not appear to indicate any criminal activity, though it remains ongoing. Kumar’s family is demanding answers, describing him as a cheerful individual who was in regular contact with them, speaking to his parents, brother, and grandmother daily, right up to the day he disappeared. Shortly after his last calls, his phone went silent.
Initially, Kumar’s friends assumed he had simply returned home and gone to sleep. However, when he failed to reappear, they reported his disappearance to the police. The news of his death, confirmed on May 27, has left his friends devastated, particularly given that Kumar was known to be a skilled swimmer.
This tragic incident follows a worrying trend, as several international students in Ontario have gone missing and later been discovered dead in bodies of water in recent months. In April, a student in Ottawa died under similar circumstances. Most recently, a York University student reported missing on June 2 was found deceased four days later. While police have not released further details, his family has confirmed his passing.
