Immigration agents shoot two individuals in Maryland
Maryland governor says he is aware of ICE-involved shooting and state officials are in contact with local authorities
GLEN BURNIE, United States (MNTV) – US Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Glen Burnie, Maryland, shot and wounded two individuals during an enforcement encounter on Wednesday. Police report the agents opened fire after a van allegedly attempted to run them over, prompting a response from Maryland’s governor.
According to the Anne Arundel County Police, agents from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations unit opened fire on a van during an enforcement action, resulting in one person being shot and a second injured.
Police detailed that the incident occurred in the 500 block of West Court around 10:51 a.m. local time. ICE agents reportedly approached a white van, which then allegedly attempted to run them over. In response, the agents discharged their firearms at the vehicle. The van subsequently accelerated before coming to a stop in a wooded area behind nearby residences.
One person inside the van sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to a hospital for treatment. A second individual, who was outside the vehicle at the time, received minor injuries and was also taken to a medical facility. The conditions and identities of those wounded have not been publicly released by authorities as the investigation continues.
Maryland Governor Wes Moore addressed the incident on social media, stating he was aware of the ICE-involved shooting and that state officials were in contact with local authorities. “As information surrounding the incident continues to emerge, we will remain in touch with local officials and are standing by to provide support for the community,” the governor wrote.
