Germany unveils AI-powered halal travel guide to attract Muslim tourists from the Gulf
Germany has launched a comprehensive multilingual halal travel guide to attract and better accommodate Muslim visitors from the Gulf
BERLIN (MNTV) — Germany has launched a comprehensive multilingual halal travel guide to attract and better accommodate Muslim visitors from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), amid a notable surge in arrivals from the region.
The Germany Halal Travel Guide, jointly produced by the German National Tourist Office (GNTO) and HalalTrip, is tailored for Muslim travellers from the GCC and available in both English and Arabic.
The 40-page digital publication, powered by AI and free to download, offers practical, culturally sensitive advice for every stage of travel — from halal-friendly dining and accommodation to local prayer facilities and tailored itineraries.
The guide was launched in response to rising interest in Germany from Gulf travellers, with 489,000 visitors from the GCC recorded in 2024 — a 21% increase compared to 2022. Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich and Düsseldorf remain top destinations, with Frankfurt alone counting GCC travellers among its top three overseas source markets.
“Germany is a destination where cultural discovery and spiritual ease go hand in hand,” the guide notes, presenting the country as a space where Muslim visitors can explore freely while staying connected to their faith.
According to GNTO’s Director of Marketing and Sales for the GCC, Yamina Sofo, the guide reflects Germany’s commitment to inclusive tourism. “We want our guests from the Gulf to feel seen, respected and at ease,” she said.
“Germany offers experiences where they can enjoy the best of the country while observing their values and traditions.”
The guide provides curated information on each of Germany’s 16 federal states, with tips from Muslim residents and community members. Cities like Berlin offer visitors access to around 80 mosques, a vibrant halal dining scene, and popular halal-certified hotels like the Waldorf Astoria and The Ritz-Carlton — both offering alcohol-free room options upon request.
Itineraries in the guide include 7- and 8-day plans combining urban experiences with lakeside or wellness retreats. Destinations range from historic castles like Neuschwanstein in Bavaria to nature escapes such as the Black Forest and Berchtesgaden National Park. Attractions are mapped alongside Muslim-friendly services, ensuring prayer spaces and halal food are never far.
One of the guide’s standout features is its integrated AI chatbot, offering on-demand assistance for Muslim travellers — from directions to the nearest mosque to halal dining options in specific neighbourhoods.
The guide also highlights Germany’s deep Islamic heritage, especially in urban hubs like Berlin and Hamburg, which host well-established Muslim communities. Many hotels mentioned offer flexible options such as removing alcohol from minibars or sourcing halal catering upon request.
The global halal travel market is rapidly expanding, with spending expected to grow from $256.5 billion in 2023 to over $410 billion by 2032. Germany’s latest initiative places it firmly in the race to become a leading European destination for Muslim tourists, especially from the GCC.
