Gaza reels under bombardment, famine; Israeli kills dozens
At least 51 Palestinians, including aid seekers and children, killed in latest Israeli strikes; famine death toll surpasses 100 as hospitals shut down and health workers collapse from hunger
GAZA, PALESTINE (MNTV) — Israeli air and ground assaults have intensified across the Gaza Strip, killing at least 51 Palestinians, including 14 aid seekers, in the past 24 hours.
Strikes targeted displaced civilians, medical personnel, and relief sites, compounding an already dire humanitarian crisis as famine-related deaths continue to rise.
The attacks come a day after Israeli tanks pushed into southern and eastern Deir el-Balah for the first time.
Israeli warplanes struck tents sheltering displaced families in Gaza City’s Shati refugee camp, killing 16 and injuring over 25, while further shelling near a school-turned-shelter in Zeitoun left four dead.
Additional casualties were reported in Khan Younis, Ber al-Naaja, and Bureij refugee camp.
A Palestinian journalist was shot dead during an Israeli raid to arrest Dr. Marwan Al-Hams, the director of Abu Yousef Al-Najjar Hospital. In central Gaza, Israeli troops opened fire on aid seekers near the Netzarim Corridor, killing seven people.
Aid-seeking civilians have become increasingly frequent targets, with the UN reporting 1,054 such deaths between May 27 and July 21 — 80% near U.S.- or UN-backed aid sites.
The death toll from starvation and malnutrition has now reached 101, including 80 children, Gaza’s Health Ministry reported.
In just the last 24 hours, 15 people — four of them children — succumbed to hunger. Six more medical facilities, including the Public Service Hospital and Central Oxygen Station, have shut down amid fuel shortages, with the WHO unable to deliver supplies due to Israeli restrictions.
UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini described the situation as catastrophic, with doctors and nurses “fainting due to hunger and exhaustion.” More than 376 wounded people have arrived at hospitals in the last day alone, further overwhelming Gaza’s collapsing healthcare system.
International pressure on Israel is mounting. The U.K. joined 27 countries in condemning Israel’s blockade and use of force against civilians.
Nearly 60 British lawmakers have demanded a total arms embargo. UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy has warned Israel of additional sanctions unless it lifts restrictions and agrees to a ceasefire.
The war on Gaza has now killed at least 59,106 Palestinians and wounded over 142,500, according to local health authorities.
Aid agencies and rights groups warn the death toll will continue to climb unless there is immediate humanitarian access and a cessation of hostilities.
