Egypt warned Israel of Gaza escalation before Oct. 7: Report
Israeli media reports Cairo issued advance alerts about mounting instability, though Israeli officials later disputed the nature and specificity of warnings
WASHINGTON (MNTV) – Egypt warned Israel weeks before the October 7, 2023 attack that conditions in Gaza were deteriorating rapidly and risked erupting into major violence, according to a report published by Israeli daily Israel Hayom.
The report said Egyptian officials conveyed their concerns through diplomatic and security channels, including meetings with Israel’s Foreign Ministry and National Security Council.
They cautioned that tensions in Gaza and the occupied West Bank had reached a dangerous level [due to Israel’s routine killings of Palestinians in Gaza].
Egyptian envoys reportedly urged Israel to address the crisis rather than continue managing it, warning that failure to do so could lead to an explosive escalation.
According to Israel Hayom, the warnings were delivered roughly two weeks before the Hamas-led resistance attack, and included high-level exchanges underscoring Cairo’s assessment that the situation was approaching a breaking point.
The newspaper also cited claims that an Egyptian intelligence-linked aircraft landed in Israel in late September 2023 as part of these communications.
Israeli officials have publicly disputed aspects of the report, with some denying that Egypt provided concrete or actionable intelligence about an imminent attack.
However, the outlet said multiple Israeli sources confirmed that Egyptian warnings were issued, even if their specificity remains contested.
The issue has drawn renewed attention amid ongoing scrutiny of intelligence and political failures preceding the October 7 attack, with Egypt maintaining that it fulfilled its responsibility by alerting Israel to the growing risks emanating from Gaza.
The unseriousness on the part of Israel prior to Hamas attack amounts to doubts if Israel itself allowed the attack to happen, following which it could flatten Gaza Strip to rubbles.
