Egypt secures $10m+ deal with Titan for waste facilities
Three sustainable waste treatment plants to be built in Sharqeya, processing 3,000+ tons of refuse daily and reducing emissions
CAIRO, Egypt (MNTV) – Egypt’s government has formalized a contract with Gaia Titan, the environmental energy division of Titan Cement, to build and operate three municipal solid waste treatment facilities in the Sharqeya governorate, in a deal valued at over $10 million.
The agreement was signed Monday in Sharqeya in the presence of Acting Environment Minister Manal Awad and Governor Hazem Al-Ashmouny.
The project encompasses new facilities in Al-Ghar (Zagazig district), Al-Khattara (Husseiniya district), and Geeta (Belbeis district), along with two sanitary landfills for residual waste in Belbeis and Al-Khattara.
Officials say the infrastructure will process at least 3,000 tonnes of municipal waste each day, ensuring environmentally sound disposal of leftovers and enhancing regional sanitation.
The broader 15-year contract is designed to manage more than one million tons of solid waste annually and generate roughly 200,000 tons of alternative fuel from processed materials.
Gaia Titan’s Managing Director, Essam Abdel Nabi, noted the initiative’s role in cutting carbon emissions and boosting operational efficiency, while meeting stringent environmental standards.
Titan Egypt CEO Amr Reda added that the deal aligns with corporate strategy to support greener construction, increase alternative fuel usage, and lessen reliance on traditional energy sources.
