Dozens Palestinians killed as Israeli strikes hit Shelters and homes in Gaza
Charred bodies recovered from school-turned-shelter in Gaza City as air raids leave at least 39 dead and over 100 injured
GAZA, Palestine (MNTV) – Israeli strikes have killed 39 Palestinians and injuring 105 others in a span of 24 hours, according to Palestinian Health Ministry.
One of the deadliest strikes targeted the Yafa school in Gaza City’s Al-Tuffah neighbourhood, a facility sheltering displaced civilians.
The bombing caused a massive blaze, resulting in the deaths of at least 23 people, including women and children. Gaza’s civil defence teams recovered multiple charred bodies from the debris and reported several more remain trapped beneath the rubble.
Elsewhere in Gaza City, another Israeli strike on a shelter killed at least 13 people overnight, while rescue workers continued searching for six victims feared buried under the ruins.
The lack of heavy equipment has severely hampered rescue efforts. “It’s not just their inability to reach the area,” one official said, “they lack the machinery to lift the rubble and extract the dead.”
In the Shuja’iyya neighbourhood, three more people were killed in an airstrike on Mashtaha Street, while another strike on a school sheltering the displaced in Al-Tuffah claimed ten more lives.
In the northern town of Jabalia, four Palestinians were killed when Israeli warplanes hit residential homes.
Southern Gaza also saw renewed violence. Two Palestinians were killed and several injured in separate strikes in eastern Khan Younis and Al-Mawasi. Witnesses reported a third strike on a displaced persons’ tent in Bani Suhaila injured five more.
Gaza’s Civil Defense confirmed the school-turned-shelter was one of several civilian targets struck throughout the day. Additional bodies were recovered from two nearby homes, and the search for more victims continues despite mounting obstacles.
The cumulative death toll from Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Gaza has now climbed to 51,305, with over 117,000 wounded since the war began on 7 October 2023, according to the territory’s health ministry.
Since 18 March alone, at least 1,928 Palestinians have been killed, following Israel’s resumption of bombing after the breakdown of a ceasefire agreement.
Meanwhile, political tensions in Israel are rising.
Far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich threatened to bring down Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government unless it launches a full-scale military occupation of Gaza. In a controversial statement, Smotrich demanded a “campaign to defeat Hamas,” including the imposition of a temporary military government and a return to Donald Trump’s proposed peace plan.
Smotrich also reiterated his support for the complete suspension of humanitarian aid to Gaza, drawing further condemnation from international observers.
The latest escalation unfolds as Israel faces mounting international legal pressure.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Prime Minister Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Separately, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) is currently hearing a genocide case against Israel for its conduct in Gaza.
With no end in sight and the humanitarian crisis deepening by the hour, the battered enclave continues to suffer under relentless bombardment, international scrutiny, and intensifying political demands for total military control.
