Algeria strengthens ties with China and Pakistan
Algiers expands diplomatic outreach to Far East amid regional isolation and strained ties with France
ALGIERS, Algeria (MNTV) — Algeria has stepped up diplomatic engagement with China and Pakistan as part of efforts to expand its foreign policy reach and counter growing regional isolation, the foreign ministry announced.
According to the statement, Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf held separate phone discussions with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar to explore avenues for deeper cooperation.
In his conversation with Wang Yi, Attaf reviewed progress on the comprehensive strategic partnership between Algeria and China, emphasizing plans to strengthen collaboration in trade, infrastructure, and technology.
Both ministers reaffirmed their governments’ commitment to advancing bilateral relations in line with the priorities set by their respective leaders.
During his call with Pakistan’s Ishaq Dar, Attaf discussed ways to boost political and economic cooperation while agreeing to continue coordination within the United Nations Security Council.
The two officials also exchanged views on key international developments, underscoring the importance of multilateral diplomacy.
Analysts say Algeria’s outreach to Beijing and Islamabad signals a broader pivot toward Asia as the North African nation seeks to diversify its diplomatic partnerships amid tensions with neighboring Maghreb states and former colonial power France.
The renewed engagement with Asian partners reflects Algeria’s strategy to position itself as a more active player in global diplomacy and reduce its reliance on traditional Western alliances.
