GROZNY, Russia (MNTV) — A Chechen fighter named Khalid carried the body of his fallen comrade for 12 days through enemy territory — honoring a promise he made to the soldier’s mother before their final mission.
Months earlier, during a phone call, the mother had made a simple request: “If he is killed, at least send me his combat boots.” Khalid, who had fought beside her son from Tatarstan for over a year, gave his word.
When his friend was killed in battle, Khalid refused to leave him behind. “How could I go to his mother with only his boots in my hands?” he said.
For nearly two weeks, Khalid carried the body through hostile terrain, surviving on scraps and moving mostly at night to avoid detection.
Exhausted and wounded, he finally reached safety — still holding the man he called his brother.
Apti Alaudinov, an aide to the head of Chechnya, described the act as “a living legend of male friendship and loyalty.”
In the end, Khalid kept his promise. The mother received not just her son’s boots — but her son himself.
