Brunei, China education institutions sign strategic pact
Two educational institutions of Brunei and China have formalised a strategic partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Brunei (MNTV) – Two educational institutions of Brunei and China have formalised a strategic partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen academic collaboration, exchange programmes, and research in petrochemical and vocational education, reports Borneo Bulletin.
Acting Director of Politeknik Brunei, Pengiran Dr Saiful Baharin bin Pengiran Haji Duraman, signed on behalf of the institution. Representing Lanzhou Petrochemical University of Vocational Technology (LPUVT), China, were Vice President Liu Xingqin and Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office Liu Yafang.
Dr Saiful welcomed the MoU as a milestone that would deepen cooperation between the two institutions in the fields of education, training, and research, particularly in the petrochemical sector.
“This collaboration marks a significant step forward in fostering a strong partnership between our institutions in the realms of research, education, and training programmes,” he said.
The MoU outlines a comprehensive framework for collaboration, including student and staff exchange programmes, implementation of the “Chinese + Vocational Skills” initiative, joint academic and research activities, publications, and information sharing. It also opens the door for future projects in areas of mutual interest.
To date, 68 PB students have completed their Industry-Based Learning (IBL) placements at LPUVT.
Dr Saiful expressed satisfaction that these students have gained exposure to advanced petrochemical technologies in Lanzhou and at Hengyi Industries.
“These IBLs are not just abstract lessons within classrooms, but real-world industrial experiences that reflect the global energy and chemical landscape,” he said.
The partnership aims to cultivate knowledge exchange and capacity-building opportunities that benefit students, educators, and industry stakeholders.
“The signing of the MoU is not just a formal agreement; it is a commitment to the growth, development, and enrichment of our academic and professional communities,” Dr Saiful added.
