Brazil’s president to visit Bangladesh to boost bilateral cooperation
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has announced plans to visit Bangladesh by February next year to deepen cooperation
DHAKA, Bangladesh (AA) – Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has announced plans to visit Bangladesh by February next year to deepen cooperation between the two nations.
Lula accepted an invitation from Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus during their meeting on the sidelines of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization’s World Food Forum (WFF) in Rome, according to Yunus’ office on Tuesday.
“I will go to Bangladesh,” Lula said, expressing Brazil’s interest in sharing its experience with universal health care and learning from Bangladesh’s pioneering work in social business and microcredit.
Both leaders, who delivered keynote addresses at the forum, later met at the FAO headquarters to discuss mutual priorities — including poverty reduction, health, and social inclusion.
They also explored future collaboration in sectors such as deep-sea fishing, pharmaceuticals, and vaccine access, alongside joint efforts on climate action ahead of the COP30 summit, which Brazil will host next year in an Amazonian state.
Lula invited Yunus to attend the COP30 conference, emphasizing Brazil’s commitment to spotlighting rainforest preservation and global climate justice.
On the sidelines of the event, Yunus also held separate meetings with Djibouti’s Prime Minister Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed and Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri.
