Bahrain’s sporting spirit shines at GCC Beach Games with six-medal haul
The medals are a testament to the kingdom’s growing sports culture and regional prowess
MUSCAT, Oman (MNTV) – Bahrain’s vibrant sporting culture continued to assert itself on the regional stage as the kingdom secured six medals, including three gold, in a triumphant day at the third GCC Beach Games being held in Muscat.
The impressive performances across multiple disciplines underscored Bahrain’s commitment to nurturing athletic talent and promoting sports excellence.
Leading the medal charge were standout performances in beach athletics, where Marta Yota and Abdulghani Mohammed clinched gold medals in their respective mile races.
Yota completed the women’s mile in 5 minutes 10.68 seconds, edging out fellow Bahraini Bontu Rebitu, who claimed silver with a time of 5:11.80.
In the men’s race, Mohammed clocked 4:30.43 to secure the top podium spot, followed by Oman’s Mohammed Al Sulaimani and Bahrain’s John Kibet, who earned bronze.
The kingdom’s tent pegging team also contributed to the golden tally with a commanding win in the team event, ahead of strong competitors from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
Meanwhile, Bahrain’s endurance and resilience were on display in the marathon swimming event, where Ahmed Abdulnabi and Ahmed Suhail captured a bronze medal in the grueling 10-kilometre race.
With these achievements, Bahrain’s medal count rose to eight after five days of competition—including four gold, one silver, and three bronze—reflecting the country’s increasing stature as a sports powerhouse in the Gulf region.
Beyond the medal podiums, Bahrain’s beach handball team displayed determination and grit, bouncing back from previous defeats to score a convincing 2-0 win over Saudi Arabia.
The result marked their second victory over the same team and set the stage for crucial upcoming matches against hosts Oman and the UAE.
In beach volleyball, the Bahrain Two duo of Ali Marhoon and Hassan Nasser saw their valiant campaign reach the semi-final stage, where they were edged out by Oman Two.
They will now face Oman One for the bronze medal.
Sailing also continued to offer promise for Bahrain, with three national athletes still in strong contention heading into the final day of individual races.
These achievements speak volumes of Bahrain’s growing investment in sports development and its emphasis on building a culture of excellence across various disciplines.
The country’s performance at the GCC Beach Games is not only a celebration of individual and team triumphs but also a reflection of the strategic vision to position Bahrain as a leading force in regional and international sports.
