Hollywood actress unveils project for orphaned children and calls for expanded humanitarian support amid critical conditions at Rafah crossing
RAFAH, Egypt (MNTV) — Hollywood actress and longtime humanitarian advocate Angelina Jolie announced plans to establish a relief village for orphaned children from the Gaza Strip.
The proposed facility aims to provide shelter, healthcare, education, and psychological support for children who have lost family members during the ongoing conflict.
Jolie outlined the initiative during a visit to the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing, a key transit point for humanitarian aid entering Gaza, where she met with relief workers and assessed conditions facing displaced civilians.
The proposed village is intended to function as a safe refuge for children who have endured prolonged hardship and trauma, offering them stability and hope while fostering long-term social and educational development.
Jolie emphasized that children in Gaza “deserve life and hope just like all children in the world,” framing the project as a vital investment in the future well-being of the region’s most vulnerable.
During her visit to Rafah, Jolie inspected large logistics warehouses where thousands of aid trucks are reportedly waiting to cross into Gaza with essential supplies, including food, water, medicine and winter relief materials, highlighting the ongoing bottlenecks in aid distribution.
Egyptian Red Crescent volunteers briefed her on operational challenges and the considerable unmet needs of Gaza’s estimated 2.2 million residents.
Jolie also toured sites in the nearby city of Al-Arish, where she met with Palestinian families and hospital staff treating Gazans who had been evacuated for medical care.
At a medical facility, she spoke with injured patients and highlighted the critical necessity of uninterrupted medical assistance as part of a comprehensive relief strategy for civilians affected by the conflict.
In addition to discussing the orphan relief village proposal with civil society leaders and humanitarian workers, Jolie renewed her call for expanded and sustained humanitarian access into Gaza.
She stressed that meeting basic needs, including food, fuel, and medical supplies, must remain a priority as winter conditions deepen civilian hardship.
In statements following her visit, she underscored that delays in aid delivery “cost lives” and urged all parties to uphold ceasefire commitments to facilitate safe and consistent aid movement.
