Algeria to launch first Children’s Parliament
Historic inauguration on Monday to include elections for speaker, vice speakers, committee chairs, and other parliamentary positions
ALGIERS, Algeria (MNTV) — Algeria will officially establish its first-ever Children’s Parliament on Monday at the People’s National Assembly, the Lower House announced in a statement on Tuesday.
The session is expected to mark a historic political moment, featuring the election of the Children’s Parliament speaker through a secret, individual ballot for the first time since Algeria’s independence, according to AL24 News.
Elections for all other parliamentary positions, including vice speakers, committee chairs, and bureau members, will also take place.
Candidates for the speaker position will be elected from among the Children’s Parliament members, who will receive guidance from a special illustrated handbook prepared by the parliamentary preparatory committee. The handbook outlines eligibility criteria and election procedures for all positions.
The statement noted that each member may run for only one position, and the elected Children’s Parliament speaker will serve a full two-year parliamentary term, reflecting a structured approach to youth representation and governance.
