AI-powered drone to assist firefighting efforts during Hajj 2025 in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia deploys firefighting drone to improve safety at holy sites through live monitoring, rapid intervention, and high-altitude operations
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (MNTV) — Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense will deploy an AI-powered firefighting drone named “Falcon” during this year’s Hajj season, marking its first use in one of the world’s largest religious gatherings, officials announced.
Designed for operations in high-altitude and hard-to-reach locations, the Falcon drone features advanced rescue and safety systems, thermal cameras, and live-feed capabilities linked directly to the Civil Defense’s command and control center.
It is capable of flying up to 12 hours and carrying payloads of approximately 40 kilograms, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
Equipped with a multi-purpose fire fighting system, the drone will be used in areas such as high-rise buildings, industrial sites, zones with hazardous materials, and densely populated environments.
Authorities say it will help minimize risks to personnel while improving emergency response speed and decision-making.
Major General Hamoud bin Suleiman Al-Faraj, Director General of Civil Defense, made the announcement during a press briefing held by the Hajj Security Forces Commanders.
He highlighted the importance of preventive inspections at pilgrims’ accommodations, safety patrols, and coordinated emergency drills with partner agencies across the holy sites.
“These efforts ensure preparedness for any potential emergency with support from rapid intervention teams operating around the clock,” Al-Faraj stated.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Bassami, Director of Public Security, said 269,678 individuals without Hajj permits were stopped from entering Makkah.
He added that 252 fake Hajj campaigns were shut down, 1,239 violators transporting unregistered pilgrims were arrested, and 109,632 vehicles breaching Hajj regulations were turned back.
