TOKYO, Japan (MNTV) — Japan and Morocco have signed a grant aid agreement to develop the Souiria K’dima New Generation Fishing Port, officials announced, marking a step forward in enhancing Morocco’s fisheries sector and strengthening bilateral ties.
The agreement was formalized by Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Onishi Yohei and Morocco’s State Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture, Marine Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, Zakia Driouich.
Both sides emphasized the project’s potential to promote Morocco’s fishing industry and foster long-term cooperation.
During his visit, Onishi also met Morocco’s Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fouad Yazourh, highlighting the importance of reinforcing partnerships with nations that share core values amid global challenges to a free and stable international order.
Onishi described Morocco as a key partner for Japan, underscoring the visit as a demonstration of Japan’s commitment to stronger ties with the Maghreb region. Officials agreed to further enhance the “Reinforced Partnership” in political, economic, and cultural spheres, ahead of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year.
The Japanese official also met Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, discussing cooperation on industrial promotion and the expansion of Japanese food imports. Both sides pledged to advance collaboration in trade and industrial sectors.
Additionally, Onishi engaged with local volunteers from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to review Japanese initiatives and Morocco’s ongoing development priorities.
