Bangladesh aims world record parachute display for Victory Day
Armed forces to stage flag-bearing skydive with 54 paratroopers on December 16, seeking Guinness World Record as part of national Victory Day events
DHAKA, Bangladesh (MNTV) — Bangladesh is preparing to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest flag-bearing parachute display as part of nationwide commemorations marking Victory Day on December 16, which marks the country’s independence following the 1971 Liberation War.
According to a press release issued by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, preparations are underway for a large-scale public celebration, including a historic skydive by 54 paratroopers drawn from the Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force.
The number symbolizes 54 years since independence, and the event is intended to be the largest coordinated national-flag parachuting display in the world.
The Chief Adviser’s Press Wing said the attempt will be formally submitted to Guinness authorities for verification.
The plan was discussed at a coordination meeting chaired by Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk E Azam, Bir Protik, and attended by senior officials including Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman, and top representatives from the Defence, Home Affairs and Public Administration ministries.
As part of the broader Victory Day program, the Army, Navy and Air Force will conduct fly-past demonstrations and a special military band performance at Dhaka’s old Tejgaon Airport beginning at 11:00 AM. At 11:40 AM, the 54-member “Team Bangladesh” will perform the record-attempt parachute jump, which will be open to the public.
Similar celebrations, including flypasts and band performances by the police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Ansar units, will take place across multiple cities nationwide.
Victory Day is observed annually to honor the sacrifices of the 1971 Liberation War and commemorate Bangladesh’s emergence as an independent state.
