Qatar Charity launches emergency food aid project in Yemen
Initiative provides essential supplies to thousands of families amid worsening famine and humanitarian crisis
DOHA, Qatar (MNTV) — Qatar Charity (QC) has launched a critical food security project in Yemen, aiming to support thousands of vulnerable families as the country faces one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises.
The initiative is funded by Qatari donors and seeks to deliver immediate relief to communities on the brink of famine, according to Relief Web.
The program began in Taiz Governorate, assisting 1,780 families, and will soon extend to Al Hudaydah Governorate with a similar number of beneficiaries, bringing the total to 3,560 families—roughly 25,000 people.
Each household will receive three food baskets covering essential staples like wheat, rice, sugar, oil, and legumes, sufficient for approximately four and a half months.
Distribution is coordinated with local authorities and the Food Security Cluster to reach the most vulnerable, including internally displaced persons and fragile communities.
Yemen’s protracted conflict, compounded by climate-related agricultural losses, has destroyed infrastructure and livelihoods, leaving millions at risk of famine.
International organizations have scaled back operations, intensifying the food crisis. In October, over 30 international and local groups warned that Yemen faces the world’s third-largest food emergency, with nearly half the population experiencing hunger and half of all children under five suffering from chronic malnutrition.
Projections suggest that by early 2026, more than 18 million people will face acute food insecurity, including over 41,000 at risk of famine.
Beneficiaries expressed deep gratitude. Hammoud Saeed Masad, a displaced father in Taiz, said, “I fled with my family because of the war. Despite my illness and meager wages, this aid allows my children to eat. It is life-saving. Thank you to the generous people of Qatar.”
Similarly, Samia Ahmed shared, “I often go to bed without food. Receiving this basket brought immense relief, and I pray for the donors’ generosity.”
