UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the Security Council’s adoption of a US-drafted resolution authorizing a Board of Peace
NEW YORK, United States (MNTV) – UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the Security Council’s adoption of a US-drafted resolution authorizing a Board of Peace and an International Stabilization Force (ISF) in Gaza.
“The adoption of the resolution on Gaza by the Security Council is an important step in the consolidation of the ceasefire,” said his spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric.
Guterres urged diplomats to match words with action: “It is essential now to translate the diplomatic momentum into concrete and urgently needed steps on the ground.”
He said the UN is committed to carrying out the roles entrusted to it, including scaling up humanitarian assistance to meet civilian needs in Gaza and supporting efforts to move the parties into the next phase of the ceasefire.
Guterres also highlighted “the continued diplomatic efforts of Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, the United States, and regional states,” emphasizing the importance of moving toward the second phase of the US plan leading to a political process for a two-state solution.
