Qatar arranges community workshop to mark International Museums Day
‘Our Story, Our Future’ family workshop anchors museum’s tribute to cultural preservation in a changing world
DOHA, Qatar (MNTV) — Qatar’s Msheireb Museums marked International Museums Day 2025 with a vibrant community workshop titled “Our Story, Our Future” on Saturday, 17 May, bringing together families and residents to explore Qatari heritage through storytelling, guided tours, and digital media.
The workshop coincided with the global celebration of Museums Day, which this year focuses on “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities.”
Designed as a family-centered experience, the workshop aimed to bridge generations by encouraging participants to engage with their cultural roots while embracing digital creativity, reported The Peninsula Qatar.
Attendees were taken on curated tours of the museum’s exhibits, followed by storytelling sessions where they crafted personal narratives. These stories were then transformed into digital presentations using interactive tools.
“Through storytelling, we empower families to connect with Qatar’s past while envisioning its future,” said Fatima Al Mansouri, Education Manager at Msheireb Museums.
“This workshop is a reflection of our commitment to cultivating cultural dialogue and fostering creative expression in our community.”
Led by instructor Ahmed Zerfa and conducted in both Arabic and English, the event attracted wide participation from the Msheireb community and beyond.
It also underscored the museum’s role as a living space for learning and engagement, aligned with the broader goals of International Museums Day.
International Museums Day, established by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in 1977, is observed annually to highlight the cultural, educational, and social roles of museums worldwide.
Last year, the initiative saw participation from over 37,000 museums across 158 countries.
By merging heritage education with digital innovation, Msheireb Museums continues to serve as a bridge between Qatar’s rich past and its rapidly transforming future.
