GAZA CITY, Palestine (MNTV) — At least 20 Palestinians were killed in a wave of Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip on Sunday, despite an ongoing ceasefire agreement with Hamas, according to medical sources and local witnesses.
Five people were killed and several others injured when Israeli fighter jets struck a coffee shop in the central town of Al-Zawayda, an area surrounded by hospitals and tents for displaced civilians.
Four more Palestinians, including children, died and 13 others were wounded when a strike hit a school sheltering displaced families in the Nuseirat refugee camp. Additional strikes in the same camp killed five more people, including two near the Al-Ahli Club and three in another civilian area.
In the northern town of Beit Lahia, an Israeli drone strike killed two people near Kamal Adwan Hospital, while another attack in the Bureij refugee camp killed four and injured eight. Two others were wounded in a strike west of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
Witnesses said Israeli forces also launched a “belt of fire” toward eastern Khan Younis, an area still under Israeli occupation. The attacks followed earlier strikes in Rafah, which the Israeli army claimed were in response to missile and gunfire attacks on its troops — allegations Hamas has denied.
Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee warned Palestinians to remain west of the “yellow line,” marking Israeli troop withdrawal zones, and described the eastern “red zone” as a “highly dangerous combat area.”
The military said it launched the strikes in response to what it called a “blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement.” Hamas, however, reiterated its commitment to the truce and denied involvement in any clashes.
The ceasefire and hostage exchange deal, brokered on Oct. 8 under a phased plan proposed by former US President Donald Trump, includes the release of Israeli hostages, Palestinian prisoners, and provisions for Gaza’s reconstruction under a new administrative framework.
Since October 2023, Israel’s war on Gaza has killed nearly 68,200 Palestinians and injured more than 170,200, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
