Domestic violence has increased worldwide. Here is a report by Saleha Faruque . Script: Domestic violence is on a rise globally. More than 10 million adults experience domestic violence every year in the USA And it is on the rise around the world according to World Health Organization. Statistics are statistics. But when it happens close to you, that becomes more evident. Chicago and its neighboring cities came into light with the tragic stories of domestic violence. In a matte rof two weeks six women died in Milwaukee county from domestic violence shootings. One of those women, Alwiya Mohamed, who was just 20 years old had a 1 year old son. According to a 2021 study by The Network, a Chicago-based organization working on domestic violence, the Chicago Police Department recorded a 64% increase in domestic violence related shootings. Sania Khan, a Pakistani American photographer who had recently moved to Chicago, was shot and killed by her ex-husband, 36-year-old Raheel Ahmed, who traveled from his home in Alpharetta, Georgia. He then committed suicide himself. Khan posted alarming messages on her tiktok account days before her murder. “Going through a divorce as a South Asian Woman feels like you failed at life sometimes. The way the community labels you, the lack of emotional support you receive, and the pressure to stay with someone because ‘what will people say’ is isolating.
