Analysis on Low Caste Hindus Forced Labor in the US with Ajit Sahi
Guest: Ajit Sahi - Civil Rights Activist and Investigative Journalist Washington DC Host: Imam Abdul Malik Mujahid BAPS, a Hindu denomination, is accused of exploiting low-caste laborers from India to build and maintain massive temples in the United States. The group operates a New Jersey temple which was raided by federal authorities earlier this year. It is facing new accusations that it forced hundreds of laborers to work at Hindu temples across the US under dangerous conditions for little pay. In a lawsuit filed in New Jersey federal court, lawyers representing the workers accuse the sect of luring laborers from India to work on temples near Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, and Robbinsville, N.J. The lawsuit alleges that BAPS was paying them $450 a month. The suit was originally filed in May, on the same day federal agents removed about 100 workers from the New Jersey temple. This was for possible violations of labor and immigration laws. BAPS has strong ties with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
