Trump warns of new sanctions on Russia if Ukraine peace deal fails
US President Donald Trump has warned that new sanctions could be imposed on Russia if it does not agree to a Ukraine peace deal
WASHINGTON, United States (MNTV) – US President Donald Trump has warned that new sanctions could be imposed on Russia if it does not agree to a Ukraine peace deal, telling reporters at the White House that “you’ll see things happen” if he is not satisfied with President Vladimir Putin’s response.
“Whatever his decision is, we’ll either be happy about it or unhappy. And if we’re unhappy about it, you’ll see things happen,” Trump said in the Oval Office during a meeting with Polish President Karol Nawrocki.
Trump added that he will soon “find out” just how strong his relationships are with the leaders of China, India, and Russia after they attended a major ceremony in Beijing.
The event, hosted by China to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, was attended by Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Trump described the ceremony as “beautiful” and “very, very impressive,” but suggested the US was deliberately left out.
“I understood the reason they were doing it, and they were hoping I was watching, and I was watching. My relationship with all of them is very good,” he said. “We’re going to find out how good it is over the next week or two. I think that we helped China very much. I don’t believe that America, that the United States, was acknowledged for helping China to gain its freedom, but perhaps that was a sleight of hand.”
It remains unclear what upcoming event will test Trump’s ties with the three nations, but he said he was “very surprised” Chinese President Xi Jinping did not mention the United States in his speech at the gathering.
On Tuesday evening, Trump accused Xi, Putin, and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un — who also attended the ceremony — of “conspiring” against the US.
“May President Xi and the wonderful people of China have a great and lasting day of celebration. Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against The United States of America,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
