Saudi Arabia unveils next-generation REEV hybrid cars
New hybrid models from Rox Motors and Icaur mark major progress in Saudi Arabia’s push toward sustainable and efficient mobility
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (MNTV) — Saudi Arabia showcased a new wave of next-generation hybrid vehicles powered by advanced Range-Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) technology at the EV Auto Show Riyadh 2025, underscoring the Kingdom’s growing investment in green and intelligent transportation.
Among the key exhibitors, Chinese automaker Rox Motors introduced its latest hybrid model, Adamas, featuring an upgraded REEV system that enhances both performance and energy efficiency, according to Arab News.
Rox KSA CEO Ahmed Al-Obaidi said the system merges gasoline and electric technologies to deliver longer range and improved power management. “Our REEV technology uses fuel to generate electricity directly, allowing smoother performance and faster energy conversion — a perfect fit for the Saudi market,” he explained.
He noted that while REEV vehicles have appeared in the Kingdom before, Rox’s latest version features smarter energy optimization and better charging efficiency, offering improved reliability for city and highway driving alike.
Also making a strong impression was Icaur, a sub-brand of China’s Chery Group, which unveiled its V27 model built on a similar REEV platform. George Xi, Icaur’s country director, said the car achieves an 800 km driving range and nearly halves fuel consumption compared to traditional engines.
“Pure battery EVs struggle in extreme heat,” Xi said. “Our REEV technology offers a practical alternative — combining endurance, energy savings, and consistent performance suited to Saudi conditions.”
Muhammad Daniyal Khan, Icaur’s head of brand and marketing in Saudi Arabia, added that the V27 operates through dual motors: one generating power from gasoline and another driving the vehicle electrically, providing a quiet and powerful experience with minimal need for external charging.
The V27 is set for official launch in February 2026, with pre-orders opening in late November 2025 via Icaur’s website.
Industry observers say the debut of Rox and Icaur’s new models reflect Saudi Arabia’s accelerating transition toward clean mobility, in alignment with Vision 2030 goals to advance sustainable and high-efficiency transport technologies.
