King Salman Royal Reserve highlights ecological role and threats facing bird species during World Migratory Bird Day
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (MNTV) — The King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting migratory birds and their habitats, underscoring Saudi Arabia’s growing global role in biodiversity conservation, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
In a statement marking World Migratory Bird Day, the reserve’s Development Authority emphasized the importance of migratory birds in maintaining ecological balance and drew attention to the increasing threats they face due to habitat loss and climate change.
Located along key migratory routes across the Arabian Peninsula, the reserve features a variety of environments — including mountains, valleys, wetlands, and mudflats — that provide essential resting and feeding grounds for hundreds of bird species during seasonal migrations.
The authority said its ongoing initiatives focus on habitat restoration, environmental monitoring, and awareness campaigns designed to align with national and international strategies for wildlife protection.
These measures aim to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s contribution to global environmental sustainability while supporting the country’s Vision 2030 objectives to preserve natural ecosystems and promote ecological research.
World Migratory Bird Day coincides with peak migration periods and serves as a reminder of the need to safeguard migratory species and their natural environments worldwide.
